For this week’s assignment, I kept things simple by drawing a self-portrait of the character I generated in our first class. While there’s still room for improvement, two main thoughts came to mind during the process:
1. What should I stay true to—the reference I provided to the AI model or the final output it produced? Should I focus on "fixing" aspects of the model’s result that I didn’t like, or stay loyal to the new version the AI created?
2. The second thought I had was about how interesting it is to draw a portrait created by an AI model, especially when compared to the long tradition of drawing portraits of real people—individuals who, across various cultures and situations, hold significant, meaningful, and symbolic roles. It made me wonder: what does this say about the character I’ve created? By drawing this AI-generated figure, am I assigning it a different kind of meaning or importance? Does the process of interpreting and drawing this character bring a new layer, depth or symbolism to its existence?
